Tom Mahoney
"KMAN This Morning" Weekend Host
Hometown: Wyandotte County, Kansas
Tom Mahoney, is often found on KMAN hosting the Saturday edition of “KMAN This Morning” and occasionally substitutes for the weekday morning team. He also co-hosts the Saturday morning call-in show, “Blueville’s Horticulture Hints” along with horticulture expert, Lisa, from Blueville Nursery. Originally from Wyandotte County, Kansas he traveled to Manhattan to attend K-State and study Radio/TV. “Things were different then. You could get into the football games for free after half-time. What price glory?”
After college Tom did what all Kansans dream of doing: Leaving and moving someplace warm. After living in the warm climates of both Texas and Florida, he did what all wayward Kansans dream of doing: moved back to Kansas. “There is something about Kansas that is hard for people from other states to appreciate. Others call our state flat and boring. A Kansan would say; it is both consistent and subtle”
Tired of moving and of big cities, Tom and his wife decided to move back to the Kansas to raise their family. They chose the town where they met in college, Manhattan. Unfortunately, the day they chose to move back was the October ice storm of ’91.
“The day before I was in Florida and it was 85 degrees and now I’m driving a Uhaul down I-70 during an ice storm. What was I thinking?”
Although Tom had not done radio for many years he was still interested in the medium, especially in the News/Talk format. An avid KMAN listener, Tom was encouraged by a friend to get back into radio, so he applied for a part-time job and the rest is history.
