Budget crunch time for Riley County Law Board
in Local by Scott Miller 0

All expenses at the Riley County police department are being looked at closely by the Riley County Law Board. A special meeting was held Monday evening to discuss budget concerns and Board Member Mike Kearns says there are options when it comes to cutting costs, with various scenarios put together. A range of an increase from eight percent to 2.5 percent is being considered. Kearns says the board has some numbers to keep in mind but no decisions have been made yet. Kearns adds the law board will look at expenses such as officer salaries, price of guns and equipment, vehicle costs and much more. Meanwhile, RCPD Director Brad Schoen says budget concerns were at the top of the list at Monday’s meeting, and he’s hopeful and optimistic. Schoen adds at least the law board has a starting point when taking a look at the budget.
