Riley County EMS Director weighs in on Fake Paddy’s Day
in Local by Cathy Dawes 0

An event that “took on a life of it’s own.” That’s how Riley County EMS Director Larry Couchman describes Fake Paddy’s day this past weekend, which he says he thinks put emergency services at risk in our community, adding his department was stretched to the maximum. There are typically 12 calls made to EMS in a 24-hour period. This past Saturday, however, there were 34 calls made and 19 were a direct result of Fake Patty’s Day. Couchman added while on KMAN’s “In Focus” this (Tuesday) morning, help was called in, with mutual aid resources called in from Pottawatomie County. Also on KMAN’s “In Focus” today (Tuesday), Riley County Commission Chair Mike Kearns described the event as “nothing more than a disgusting display of public drunkenness.”
