Hearing delayed for suspect in rape case from nearly three decades ago

An extradition hearing for a New York man arrested in connection with a nearly 30-year-old rape case in Ogden has been continued. 54-year-old Daniel Brewer of Queens, New York, was to have an extradition hearing last week, but the hearing was continued to March 19th. Brewer is charged with raping two women in Ogden in 1981, with one of the cases the same one Eddie Lowery was wrongfully convicted of so many years ago. Brewer was arrested in New York the end of January and is being held at Rikers Island in New York. The Attorney general’s office says Brewer was tried on one count two times back in the early ’80’s, each ending in a mistrial. The case was dismissed without prejudice, which means the charges could be re-filed later. Count two involves the same charge Lowery was tried for.
