Once again, unemployment numbers for the region are encouraging, with the Manhattan metropolitan area, including Riley, Pottawatomie, and Geary counties, showing 3.9 percent unemployment for November of 2009. That is up a bit from October’s numbers of 3.6 and last year’s November numbers of 3.3. The city of Manhattan had an extremely low number of 2.7 percent, up just a little from October’s 2.4 percent number. Manhattan continues to have the lowest unemployment rate compared to other cities in the state. Riley County’s number is 2.8 percent, Pottawatomie county had 3.6, Clay had 3.9, and Geary had the highest number of 7.5 percent. Geary County’s is up quite a bit from last year’s 4.6 percent number.
