A candidate for Junction City’s City Manager position has declined the offer from city officials. Mayor Terry Heldstab announced this (Thursday) afternoon the city commission is planning to meet in a special executive session Friday afternoon at 2:30 to consider their next step. As announced earlier this week, a candidate had been decided on at the Tuesday night meeting, but that individual apparently declined the offer. The name of that person has not been released, although the final two candidates were Jerry Vernon of Smithville, Missouri and Mark Rooney of Wheeling, Illinois.
