A South Dakota man faces prison time for an attempted murder on Fort Riley. Ryan Peterson of Ipswich, South Dakota, is charged with one count of attempted murder, another count of attempted aggravated burglary, two counts of criminal trespass on a federal military post, and one count of criminal damage to property. The indictment handed down Thursday alleges Peterson made the drive from his home in Ipswich to Fort Riley in May of this year armed with a hunting knife and a painter’s tool, intending to cut the victim’s throat. Peterson was arrested after ringing the door bell of the victim’s home, confronting the victim, and running away. If convicted, Peterson could face a maximum of 20 years in prison for the attempted murder charge.
