Fire caused an estimated $20,000 to $30,000 damage to an abandoned home in Ogden this (Thursday) morning. Riley County Fire chief Pat Collins tells KMAN the fire appears to be suspicious as there were no working utilities going into the one story single family structure, located at 207 South Walnut. The owner of the abandoned home is listed as Robert Lindsay of North Carolina, although the USD 383 school board had reportedly been in negotiations recently to purchase the property. Responding to the seven a.m. fire were 18 firefighters from Ogden, Tatarrax, Keats, and the city of Manhattan Fire Department offered mutual aid. Collins admits it was a cold morning for firefighting, with salt brought in to put under the firetrucks to keep the surrounding ground and roadway from freezing.
