One man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after falling from a tree. According to Assistant Riley County Fire Chief Doug Messer, at around 9:15 emergency units responded to a call at McDowell Creek road along the Kings creek river bank, a half mile north of the Konza prairie, for a report that an employee of a tree cutting company had fallen from a 20-foot high tree to the ground. The man works for Salina tree service and was cutting tree limbs from a large power line located in the area. Messer says it would have been almost impossible to get an ambulance in the area because of the rough terrain and muddy conditions. Geary County emergency officials also responded and had a John Deer gator vehicle available to get across the muddy area and through the tree line to transport the victim. Messer says the man did receive extensive injuries but was conscience and speaking to emergency personnel. He was transported to Mercy Regional health center and is receiving treatment.
