Robert was a God loving man who became friends to so many people. He was there when we needed him. He was a Vetern of the Army & a leader for the Lord who never came in contact with a stranger. Bob you were there for everyone and you were loved like a brother by most. You will forever be missed but you will always have a place in my “Heart”…….you have now been given your wings to fly the heaven’s….Many will never know the pain that you went through from serving our country so they could be safe….they also do not need to judge… He put His arms around you He knew that you were suffering So He closed your weary eyelids It broke our hearts to lose you You will forever be in my thoughts & in my heart. I was absolutely stunned when I heard the news yesterday. My husband and I now live in the Lawrence area, but I used to work for Farm Bureau when Bob was a security guard there. He was the most caring person and truly enjoyed visiting with people. When he achieved his goal of running and completing the NYC (hope I have the town right) marathon, each of us in our Life company signed a huge congratulations card and gave it to him when he returned to work. He was overcome with emotion, but we could tell it meant a lot to him. Bob will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. |

I agree with you Brenda. I worked with Bob for several years, and was his confidant to many things. Bob was a great guy, and I know how much he suffered from his PTSD issues. One of the last times I saw him was at the VetCenter, he told me he was feeling better than he had in years. I know there are many questions people will have over this thing, but frankly, it’s none of their business. All I know is that the Robert Potter that I knew was a gentle man with many demons. I don’t know what led up to Friday night, but I also feel for Marty and the rest of the family that this has affected so deeply. |

Robert Potter was a VN vet that suffered through the Tett Offensive. Many of our soldiers lived through that terrible experience. We should be greatful to him and other soldiers for all they did to keep us free. Yet he developed many friendships over the years and he was particularly interested in soldiers and the care and respect they should get. He deserved to bring sunshine to those friends he met online thru ClassMates and Facebook. He attempted a close walk with his God and yet wanted everyone to have peace with the God they had a relationship with. He sought peace his entire life; struggled more than most of us will ever know. He would want to be remembered for having made a difference in the lives of the friends he made. May he find the peace now in death that he could not find here. His website for Veterans is at pottercountry.com. |
