Possible suspect in St. George cemetery vandalism

A juvenile suspect has reportedly been identified in connection with the recent criminal desecration of the St. George Cemetery. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat indicates acting on information received from the public, his office has conducted interviews in the St. George area in regards to the case, with a juvenile suspect identified who is cooperating with law enforcement. Riat adds the case is being forwarded to the Pottawatomie County attorney for review and possible charges. The incident occurred sometime between October 28th and November second. The cemetery is located on the south east side of the intersection of Rockingham Road and Franklin Drive and 16 headstones were damaged. Damage is estimated at five-thousand dollars, with the St. George Township board authorizing a one-thousand dollar reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with further information may call the sheriff’s office at 457-3353, and callers may remain anonymous.
