Yet another area hospital is announcing precautions during flu season. Geary Community Hospital announced today (Tuesday), it is discouraging visitation by children under the age of 12 and particularly in the women’s health center, the hospital’s obstetrics unit. Visitors who are experiencing an illness should not visit hopsital patients. Hospital infection control nurse Sherri Robidou says she won’t forbid adults and children from visiting patients yet, with the community so far spared the epidemic number of flu cases that neighboring communities are experiencing. However if influenza cases increase in Geary county, Geary Community Hospital may consider further visitation limits. All patient rooms are qeuipped with wall-mounted hand sanitizers, with all public restrooms having anti-bacterial soaps. Masks, hand sanitizers and tissues are available at the hospital information desks, lobbies, waiting rooms, and emergency entrance. The visitation guidelines are similar to ones announced by Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan a week and a half ago.
