A reminder that FDIC chair Sheila Bair will be in Manhattan Monday, to present a Landon lecture on the K-State campus. Bair is a Kansas native , born and raised in Independence. She became the 19th chair of the FDIC in 2006 and is serving a five year term. She also was appointed a member of the FDIC’s board of directors through July of 2013. Bair has served as Dean’s professor of Financial regulatory policy at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, assistant secretary for financial institutions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, senior vice president for government relations of the New York Stock exchange, and commissioner and acting chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Bair has indicated one topic of her speech will be who should control our nation’s big banks, in light of the federal bailout program. The lecture is Monday at 10:30 in Kansas State’s McCain Auditorium.
