Two people were taken to the hospital following a two vehicle accident in Clay County Sunday afternoon. 29-year-old Shelly Fortner of Clay Center and 51-year-old Laura Calihan of Abilene were both taken to the Clay County Medical Center following the accident on K-15, about one and a half miles north of US 24 in Clay Center. Both were treated and released. According to the Kansas HIghway Patrol, Fortner was driving a ‘97 Ford Explorer northbound on K-15 and attempting to turn left to make a u-turn. A 2001 Chrysler PT-Cruiser driven by Callihan was also northbound on K-15, moved over into the southbound lane to pass the Explorer, and did not see a turn signal, broadsiding the Explorer. No one else was injured although there were two other people in Fortner’s vehicle and one passenger in Callihan’s. The accident was reported at 4:30 Sunday.
