Pottawatomie County moved a step closer toward determining space needs in their jail facility. Commission Chair Stan Hartwich reminds us upgrading from the current jail has proven to be an ongoing matter for the County. Daniel Rowe, Principal of Treanor Architects, talks about the County’s motion to hire Treanor Architects and Voorhis Associates, who will provide a plan and study regarding the County facilities. The County Commision made the motion after both Treanor Architects and Voorhis Associates cut their bids. It was a far cry from the disappointment expressed at earlier Pottawatomie county commission meetings, with Flint Hills Trails foundation officials having good news to report, in their ongoing efforts to put together a Wam-Sag-Man trail, to span the areas of Wamego, St. George and Manhattan. Foundation President Diane Novak announced progress with the Union Pacific Railroad, with negotiations toward the purchase of 30 feet of right of way. Foundation Vice President David Karnowski assured commissioners Monday the trail will be a nice one. Hopes are to begin work on the trail next spring. And Pottawatomie County Commission Chairman Stan Hartwich was happy that work can hopefully begin on Balderson Boulevard soon. The county is looking to work in conjunction with Wamego, and the fact that bids came in lower than anticipated didn’t hurt things.
