The 2009 budget for USD 383 Manhattan/Ogden was approved for publication at Wednesday night’s board of education meeting. Finance Director Bruce Stiles says board members decided on section 3 which includes a 47.815 mils. Stiles says, the main item that was noted and decided upon was capital outlay, which was set at 5.5 mills. The 2009 budget was approved for publication by the board with a 7-0 vote, however there will be a later date of discussion for the general public to voice their opinions. And lots of discussion along with mixed feelings were brought up at the meeting, over contracts for the construction project for Manhattan High School’s west campus. Board Vice President Susan Marshall says she thinks the Universal company that the board has hired previously is too good to pass up. The board has chosen their architect for the project but will continue to see many bids for construction. Board member Curt Herrman says he believes the proposed contract should be changed. A few other members were opposed to the idea. In the end the board decided they will hold a special meeting next Thursday, the 13th to discuss the Manhattan High construction project in more detail.
