An attempted second degree murder trial has begun in Clay County. 41-year-old Tracy Hackney of Topeka, pleaded not guilty in April to attempted second degree murder and trafficking a controlled substance within a state correction facility. Hackney allegedly fired shots at a vehicle in the 400 block of Bridge Street in Clay Center in December. The victim in the case, 48-year-old Teri Buskirk, was treated for a wound to her leg. Schools in Clay and Riley Counties were locked down following the shooting as a precaution, with Hackney thought to be traveling to Topeka. And a Manhattan man entered a plea of no contest to burglary and three other charges during an appearance Monday in Riley County District court. Mark Rickenbaker of 531 Yuma was also stipulated to violating probation. Sentencing is set for August 31st. A new pending case involving Rickenbaker is set for status next week. Rickenbaker is one of several defendants associated with a rash of aggravated residential burglaries in the blocks surrounding the Aggieville area and east of campus, occurring October through December of 2008.
