A rural Louisville man is dead following a multi-county chase early this (Tuesday) morning, reportedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s department inidicates the first report on the case came in shortly before midnight that a male driving a black Pontiac Grand Prix was possibly armed with a handgun and had made suicidal threats. Marshall County authorities reported a brief pursuit involving the vehicle at about 2:30 a.m., with Riley County Police sighting the vehicle at about 3:30. The Pontiac was then spotted by a Pottawatomie county Deputy, who attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Hays Drive and McCall Road. The chase continued on highway 24 to Wamego, then north on K-99 to Westmoreland. Stop sticks were used in Westmoreland, with the vehicle rolling into a yard off of Walnut Street. The driver was found deceased from what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound. Several calls were reported during the incident, in which the individual allegedly reported intentions to kill himself. The name of the 23-year-old rural Louisville man is not being released pending notification of next of kin. The body has been transported to the Shawnee county coroner for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
