NOT WORKING? LOOK BELOW...
For Macintosh:
There are many ways to play the streams. If you are using a Macintosh, both Quick Time Media Player and ITunes Media Player should automatically play the files with no problem.
Visit the websites to download the software. (Both programs have versions available for Windows/PC.)
Try opening the following URL manually if it does not automatically open:
http://cardwell.kansas.net:8000/listen.pls
For Windows/PC:
Winamp is the best program to use for listening to our streams, but this program is only for Windows. Real Audio also plays “.pls” file types for streams.
Update Your Media Player’s Software
Also, make sure that whichever program you are using is the most updated version of the software. For example, only Windows Media Player version 9 with the most recent updates supports Winamp’s "Shoutcast" streams, which is the ".pls" file type used by KMAN.
Windows Media Player
If you must use Windows Media Player make sure you update it first from the Internet by choosing "Help" then "Check for Player Updates". Follow the instructions step by step to update your WMP to version 9.
The other MOST IMPORTANT thing unfortunately with Windows Media Player is that you have to "manually" enter the URL for the stream to listen. Microsoft does not want to support Winamp’s “Shoutcast" streams in hopes that their formats become standard since Windows Media Player is pre-installed on most every computer running any version of Windows.
Therefore, to manually play the “.pls” file select the menu option "File", then choose "Open URL", then type in the following URL:
http://cardwell.kansas.net:8000/
(Omit the "listen.pls" as previously shown for playing in other media players)
Other things to keep in mind if you are still experiencing problems:
Remember that KMAN only broadcasts online 6 - 10 am and 4 - 6 pm Monday - Friday, during Powercat Gameday, KMAN sports broadcasts (local broadcasts only), and during selected special events. If you are attempting to listen outside of these times, you will receive no audio. If listening during hours that KMAN streams audio:
1. Make sure your speakers are properly connected and the volume is turned up. (Play a sound file on your computer as a test.)
2. Make sure are connected to the Internet. See if you can open another web page (i.e. www.google.com). If not, re-establish your Internet connection and try again.
3. If you're trying to listen at work and none of the above has solved the problem, check with your network administrator to make sure there aren't proxy settings or other settings that need to be configured (usually in preferences or options depending on the player).
4. Occasionally problems may occur at our studios which don't allow us to stream audio or that cause an interruption in the stream. If none of the steps above solve the problem, contact our studios at 785-537-1350 and we'll check to make sure the signal is being sent from our studios.
Thanks for listening to KMAN online at 1350kman.com!!
